Akha Hill House Homestay Background
In 1987, A-Pae A-Mo led 5 families from Ban Pong Nam Ron to resettle at a hill below the village. One day, they met some Karen leading a group of tourists pass their village. A-Pae wondered how that Karen could communicate with the foreigners and wanted to learn the method too so he asked that Karen guide to teach him two words which he noted down. Later more tourists passed by he would note down more words. During that time he also worked as a porter and learned more English until he was promoted to tour guide assistant and later on, to guide. In 1993, he opened his house to host groups of tourists and he has developed it into a guesthouse till today. In 2007, A-Pae A-Moe saw the benefit of running a homestay: that it could distribute income to the whole village so he set up the homestay project in this tourist village.
